The Ultimate Guide: To Maximise your Home’s Space

Maximise your home’s space with our tips and tricks

We all want more space — who doesn’t? But when you start thinking about how you could use that space, it can get a little daunting. That’s why it pays to think small, and keep your options open. But how do you maximise the space in your home? Are you looking for any small room hacks? Here are some easy-to-understand tips and tricks on how to improve spaciousness of Your Northern Ireland home. We have 6 tips and tricks to improve your Belfast home’s airiness and roominess.

Encouraging more natural light to come through new or existing uPVC or aluminium windows, extending your entranceway with glass sidelights and arches, installing a roof lantern up above, being smart about only having functional furniture with built either built-in storage or the possibility to be stored away, and replacing walls with internal doors to separate but still unite rooms without thick walls, small extensions or conservatories, external and especially wide-opening doors which will let plenty of light into your home and without taking up any wall space when opened. We have a range of steel-like and aluminium modern internal doors.

Internal Doors

The size and design of your internal doors will depend on their intended use and the style of your home. For example, if you have separate rooms, think about how these are formed. For example, pocket sliding doors will perform that dual function of separating adjacent spaces, yet seamlessly opening them up when appropriate. Going one step further, movable walls also work very well for the right space and there is an abundance of clever systems on the market to consider. Installing internal doors is a perfect way to utilise your home space and make a smaller room feel larger.

There are two basic types of internal doors: sliding and hinged. Sliding doors are most often used in kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobes, where they allow for a clear line of sight through the room. Hinged doors are more commonly used as part of a hallway or entrance way, with the door swinging open inwards. At Total Home NI, you have the option of either. Our most popular internal door is our Aluco steel-look internal doors, as they provide excellent room dividers, whilst remaining slim, modern and allowing maximum natural light through your home- which furthers its airiness and spaciousness.

External Doors

External sliding doors can be a great choice for your home, as it helps maximise the amount of natural light coming into your Northern Ireland home as it opens up a room and make it feel bigger.

External sliding doors are available in many different colours and styles at Total Home NI, so they can be combined with a wide range of interior décor schemes. External doors can come in a range of uPVC, aluminium and steel-look options. The main thing to consider when deciding on which external door is right for your home, is the how traditional or contemporary your home is.

Sliding doors are ideal for creating an unobtrusive connection between the inside and outside of your home. They can also be used to create an airy feel in living rooms and bedrooms with large windows and patios, which makes them especially popular among homeowners who want to open up their home to the outdoors without compromising on privacy. For maximum light exposure and the ability for maximum width of your door, we recommend a bi-folding door as they can be configured up to 6 leaves wide.

One of the biggest benefits of bi-fold doors is the effect they have in creating a seamless flow between your garden and inside space. Due to their entire height and width glazing, the doors’ expanse of glass allows light to enter the inside area even when they are closed and offers fantastic views of the garden. For summertime BBQs and outside meals, bi-folds are especially fantastic. They are also simple to open and frequently have child-safe features to prevent young children from getting their fingers stuck. We have multiple flexible finance options available with Novuna, if you check out our finance page and you could start your home improvements journey today.

Roof lanterns or Flat Roof-lights

Using roof-lights and roof lanterns to maximise natural light is among the greatest ways to achieve the openness and airiness of your NI home. Any addition seems spacious and bright because to the roof windows’ ability to rapidly open up the home and let in sunshine. A roof lantern or flat roof-light window would create a magnificent, sun-filled extension and let in up to three times as much natural light as smaller, regular windows. This a great alternative option to maximise your home space.

Conservatory/ small extension

Sometimes the space in your current home is simply too cramped. It might not be feasible to relocate. What about an addition, instead? Nothing overly spectacular is required. At Total Home NI, we frequently construct one-story conservatories, with the option of a solid tiled roof or a glass one.  This allows our customers have just enough to provide them with the extra space they so desperately need. Building a conservatory not only creates more space but also due to the number or windows and glass roof, it allows the greatest amount of natural light in.

Windows

Installing new windows is an obvious option to let more natural light into your home, we install completely bespoke windows, allowing you to choose from our wide range or expertly designed and manufactured windows to suit any size or style for your home. As our windows are entirely bespoke, we are able to manufacture our windows to nearly any size you require, reducing sightlines and having the ability to change the window’s openers to allow for larger panes of glass. This will allow maximum natural light to flood into your home. We have a large collection of windows available at Total Home NI, including double glazing and uPVC, aluminium and steel-like options.
