Here at Total Home, we are proud to support the Affordable Warmth Scheme, designed to fight fuel poverty and improve the warmth and energy efficiency of homes all over the country. Once you have been accepted we would love to help your home improvement journey.

What is the Affordable Warmth Scheme?

The Affordable Warmth Scheme is run by the Department for Social Development, and aims to address fuel poverty in private sector homes. It aims to combat this by providing grants of up to £7,500 for both homeowners and renters. This grant is provided to improve the energy efficiency and insulation of these homes, making them warmer and therefore alleviating fuel poverty.

Do I Qualify?

The Affordable Warmth Scheme is a targeted scheme aimed at those areas where levels of fuel poverty are their highest. The scheme is aimed at renters and homeowners in the private sector – for example, a home rented from a private landlord, or one that is owned by yourself. You may also qualify for a grant if you have a total annual gross income of less than £23,000.

  • You may qualify for the scheme if you:
  • Live in Northern Ireland
  • Own and occupy your property as your main home
  • Have your day / life interest in the house
  • Rent from a private landlord, and
  • Have a total annual gross income of less than £23,000

It is not available for tenants living in social housing; you are not eligible if you are a Housing Executive or housing association tenant.

The property must not be:

  • Holiday Home
  • Bed & Breakfast
  • Commercial establishment

What can it be used for?

The Affordable Warmth Scheme aims to reduce the costs of heating your home, through improving the overall energy efficiency. It aims to do this through four main ways the grants can be used.

  1. Insulation & Ventilation
  2. Heating your home
  3. Replacement Windows
  4. Solid Wall Insulation

Replacing your windows is one of the most important ways of improving the warmth and insulation of your home. You may have single glazing, which is very inefficient and can lead to heat escaping more easily from your home, therefore costing you more on your energy bills.

Grants from this Affordable Warmth Scheme can be used to replace your windows with double glazed windows, which can significantly improve your energy efficiency and reduce your heating bills.
